In 1896, a Frenchman named Charles Serres settled in Haro with the aim of producing wines using the experience he had already gained in France and the knowledge he was acquiring in La Rioja. This blend led him to create a style of his own which has lasted until the present in the new facilities that replaced the bodega in Barrio de la Estación in order to keep his traditional winemaking techniques up to date with new technology.
Bodegas Carlos Serres,S.A. have 50 ha. of vineyards in an area superbly located for the production of high quality grapes, which give rise to superb wines, always produced in the traditional way, the most widely used variety being tempranillo.
The warehouse carries out the ageing process in French and American oak casks, marketing three brands: Serres, Carlos Serres y Onomástica, as described below:
Serres are fresh young red, rosé and white wines made with tempranillo, garnacha and viura respectively.
Carlos Serres are crianza wines, structured and elegant, made with tempranillo and a small percentage of garnacha and graciano for the Reserve and Grand Reserve.
Onomástica wines are those from the best years which have received several medals, among them the Silver Bacchus and the Decanter World Wine Award in the silver category. They are flavourful and well balanced wines with good aromatic intensity, from hand-picked tempranillo and mazuelo grapes matured in barrels for 24 months before bottling for 18 months, to be enjoyed at their prime.
